5 things I learned this weekend #2 - DistancePreps.com

Last weekend we told you that we thought Nease was under ranked, Oak Hall was pretty good, and Chiles might be the team to beat in 3A. Find out what we learned on week 2 of the Florida High School Cross Country Season.

1- The 3A girls have a new favorite in Karen Xiang. Last week we informed you that her team, Nease, was way under ranked.  This week the FACA rankings came out and had her listed as #1 individually in 3A and her team as #4. With her dominating performances at Bob Hans (Win in 18:42) and Katie Caples (Win in 18:52) she has not only proven herself as the 3A favorite, but might also be the best in all classes right now.

2- Bishop Kenny will have their hands full when trying to defend their 2A state team title.  This weekend at the Katie Caples Invitational in Jacksonville, FL the boys at Trinity Prep showed the world that they can be just as competitive in 2A as they were in 1A. The Saints won the Boys Elite division by 40 pts over St. Augustine High School with a team average of 17:11 and a spread from 1-5 of 35 seconds. If Trinity Preps #5 can close the gap between himself and their #4, the team will be hard to beat in November.

3- The ladies at Winter Park are looking to be in the title hunt this November. On Tuesday, September 3rd Coach McWilliams hinted that her team was good

On Saturday, September 7th, they proved her right in a big way. Her team won the Astronaut - Rotary Invitational with the top 5 placing in the top 8 and each going under 20 minutes.

4– The Mustangs are ready for a set of rings. The boys from Mandarin traveled to the Lecanto Panther Invitational this weekend and won against a very good Land O Lakes team. Through the first mile, Land O Lakes had 3 ahead of Mandarin’s #1 but by the end Mandarin had 4 in the top 12 with 1 and 2 placing 3rd and 4th respectively. Last season Mandarin placed 2nd in the state to a very good Colonial team, this season they hope to take that top spot.

5- There is no rest for the wicked. Big shout out to site founder Dr. Bob as he managed to cover 3 separate meets in the matter of 24 hours.
